A Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) plays a vital role in a ship’s engineering team, overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of a vessel’s propulsion systems and auxiliary machinery. This role requires a high level of technical skill, responsibility, and independence, as DDEs often manage critical systems to ensure the vessel’s safety and efficiency.

Any applicant who has successfully complets Beacon Maritime Training's Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) 1000/4000 Horsepower (BEMART-156) course within one year of the date of submitting a complete application will:

• Satisfy the professional examination requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(j) for a national officer endorsement as Designated Duty Engineer Less Than 4,000 HP Motor under 46 CFR 11.524. This approval is limited to the original issuance of Designated Duty Engineer Less Than 4,000 HP Motor only. Any other endorsement sought in conjunction with this approval will require the successful completion of the USCG-administered examination for that endorsement;

• Receive 45 days of sea service credit that can be applied toward the service requirements of 46 CFR 11.524(b)(1) for a credential as Designated Duty Engineer of Motor Propelled Vessels of Unlimited Horsepower.

As a DDE, you’ll be responsible for

Course Requirements
